Polar Bear with Yearling Cub
Copyright Mariela Urra Schiaffino - all rights reserved
This fantastic photo of a healthy polar bear mom and her yearling cub was taken on August 18, 2016 by Trip Leader / Photographer Mariela Urra Schiaffino during our Polar Bears, Muskox, Icebergs & Seals iwildilfe expedition in Ungava Bay, Nunavik. The bears has just completed a 1/2 kilometer swim before emerging onto the slippery rock tundra shoreline. Note the shadow of a third bear coming in from behind. Polar bears live on the remote tundra islands in the Ungava region while waiting for the winter ice to return.
Compared to many of the big commercial polar bear trips available out there, this is an altogether new, little-explored and photographed polar bear region that offers a completely new experience. Rather than large groups of people in big ATV's and other machines, instead we quietly travel in small groups on the water along with the Inuit people who live here year-round. We gently visit the polar bears and other wildlife in their totally natural habitat and environment. It's the real deal....
