We will start this unique Arctic kayak expedition by boarding a charter boat or aircraft at Baker Lake, Nunavut (see www.thelon.com/map.htm); to fly 200(+/-) airmiles out over the remote Arctic tundra known locally as the 'Barrenlands'. Here we will land at our starting point near the Nunavut/ NWT boundary on the Thelon River: one of the most isolated regions in mainland North America!

En-route we spend time hiking and exploring  the magnificent hills and tundra region, and camp 'in style' amidst the secret hollows and hills...

Here lies the opportunity to discover ancient archeological sites, and often find tent-rings indicating old encampments, often with arrowheads, spearpoints and stone tools and just scattered about on the ground

- as if the ancient Inuit hunters were here just yesterday, instead of centuries ago..

As the Thelon River is famous as a wildlife-rich region, you may well encounter musk-oxen, moose, white tundra wolves, barrens grizzly, wolverine, and a variety of migratory waterfowl, birds-of-prey & exotic shorebirds.

Depending on the size of the group, often we set out food caches in advance, making it so we will be able to travel light in the kayaks - averaging 6-10 miles per day, with plenty for wildlife viewing, fishing, exploring or just relaxing!

Quality camps and abundant fresh-food gourmet meals are prepared & served in 'style' daily, after a long day exploring and paddling the remote waters.

Escorted by qualified kayak instructor and naturalist trip leaders, this is truly a wonderful and unique kayak adventure in Canada's mainland Arctic!
