Tundra Eskers Leisure Basecamps Three economical
do-it-yourself options to see and experience |
|---|
| The barrenlands and its beautiful eskers are
a truly magical and super remote wilderness to visit; an Arctic
oasis mini-forest fairyland. Indeed - the eskers are one of those extremely rare places left on
earth where one can rejuvenate their spirit, and get back in touch with
the true 'wild' beyond imagination. On the tundra eskers programs, there
are no staff or support aircraft kept on site -
You are truly on your own, at one of the most isolated regions on earth! |
|
|---|
|
|
For do-it-yourself adventurers, we offer to set your party of two or four persons by floatplane & boat to a remote esker tent-camp far out on the NWT tundra at the Thelon / Eileen River headwaters areas, near the Nunavut boundary. We will supply the basic food which you will prepare yourselves; all tents and related equipment; watercraft, all air charter flights; plus the maps and pre-trip information you will need to safely explore the area! Communications with the outside world is maintained by satellite telephone. As these are very remote areas, we recommend that one or more in the party has previous Arctic camping experience. |

TUNDRA ESKERS OPTION #1:
(Thelon River headwaters) |
|---|
|
We offer a comfortable four-person outpost called 'Southcamp', on the beautiful sandy eskers on the south end of Whitefish Lake - the headwaters of the Thelon River. The new outpost is located 120 air miles NE of Lutsel Ke, and 230 NE of Yellowknife NWT; and is very likely one the most remote outposts on planet earth! |
|---|
|
Our comfortable little cabin is nestled hidden in a sheltered sand esker bay along the shores of Laroque Bay of immense Whitefish Lake - the true headwaters of the Thelon River.

You can fish all you want here for world-class lake trout and Arctic grayling (catch & release except for which you eat). The larger esker ponds and small lakes nearby often have BIG northern pike! The Thelon River outlet is also only a few miles away from the outpost for incredible exploring, and world-class Arctic grayling fishing with ultra-light or fly rod equipment! |
|---|
|
At this
isolated, immense and little-explored tundra region - and depending on the
time of summer - you will have a chance to encounter musk-oxen, wolves or
migrating caribou. |
