This fantastic photo of a male polar bear making landfall after an island-to-island swim was taken in mid-August 2017 by Belgium client / photographer Caroline Vancoillie while exploring by boat and Inuit freighter canoe among the numerous islands along the shore of Ungava Bay Nunavik. Even after losing a day hunkered down inside the cabin during a gale-force storm, over a period of four more days the small group had three encounters with the great white bears; plus saw bearded seals, musk-oxen herds, peregrine falcons, and drove up close for a 'face-to-ice face' with a big iceberg that drifted in during the storm from the north off the Arctic seas...

Caroline writes:

"[For] quite some time I was looking for an experience seeing polar bears in their natural habitat and the description of the trip Tom is offering seemed finally to be an answer on the search, a small group, remote, respecting the environment, the nature and the wildlife.  Having [just] been in the field, I just have one word, it was FANTASTIC! We got some [real] insights of how life is in Nunavik and we saw more than one can dream of: polar bears, musk-ox, seals, an iceberg close to shore, peregrine falcons, sandpipers, the northern lights, Arctic poppies and beautiful landscapes. All of this respecting the nature, the wildlife and leaving no trash behind us. This was only possible with the help of an excellent Great Canadian Wildlife Adventures team: thanks Tom, Murray, Mariela, James and Poppy! The trip fueled my interest in learning more about Nunavik and start dreaming [of] going back..."
